Joseph Guislain (* 2 February 1797 in Gent; "† 1 April 1860 in Gent) was a famous Belgian psychiatrist. It reformed the hospital system and the legislation in the sense of a modern psychiatry.

Guislain transferred the line of the psychiatric institutes of the city Gent in the year 1828. Since 1835 it informed psychiatry at the University of Gent. In the year 1841 Guislain transferred the presidency of a committee, that should improve the situation in the Belgian psychiatric mechanisms. The submitted suggestions led to a law change in the year 1850. In the year 1852 in Gent the institute for sample Hospice Guislain was created.

To the publications Guislains belong to Traite sur l'alienation mental (1826) and Traite sur les phrenopathies"… (1833).
