Judah Folkman (* 1933 in Cleveland) is an US-American cell biologist and physician, who particularly admit for its study of the Angiogenese and the development of the blood vessels are.

Biografie

Judah Folkman studied afterwards at Ohio State University and to the Harvard Medical School. After conclusion of its study he worked on the Massachusetts General Hospital and very successfully researched at liver cancer and the use of cardiac pacemakers.

From 1960 to 1962 Folkman served with the U.S. Navy and studied the growth of the blood vessels. 1971 appeared a publication in the England journal OF Medicine, in which he represented his hypothesis that all cancer forms were dependent on the Angiogenese. This was rejected at the beginning by most experts and became generally accepted as far as possible attacked, however due to several years and large research. Today Folkman is a professor for cell biology to the Harvard Medical School and director of the Vascular Biology Program at the child hospital in Boston.
