The Austrian company Julius Meinl AG developed from in the year 1862 of Julius the Meinl I. in Vienna (1. District - at the meat market) created business, in which at first only green Kaffeebohnen, later also freshly roasted coffee was offered. Their brand name is the Meinl Mohr, a dark-membranous child head with high red Fes on yellow reason, sketched by Joseph binder.

The business with freshly roasted coffee flowered, so that Julius Meinl had IITH 1939 European-wide more than 1,000 branches, in which also different food by above average quality was sold. By the Second World War of it practically only the Austrian business and remained.

2000 stepped out Meinl because of the financial crisis from the Detailhandel with food in Austria and sold, with exception of the speciality business at the ditch, all branches. These were taken over particularly by the REWE and by the savings company. The company concentrates today the original coffee business and operates in Ottakring a The well-known Viennese branch at the ditch however 2000 and is resumed increased and as delicate meal business Meinl at the ditch was reconditioned. In Eastern Europe the existing branch net was gradually sold: 1999 Hungary (at AD Delhaize/Belgium) and 2005 Tschechien (at Ahold). Only in Poland still some branches are operated. A further line of business, which grew particularly strongly under the rule of Julius Meinl III., is the Meinl bank.

To the Julius Meinl Imperium belonged until 1999 also the hypermarket chain Pam Pam. It became of iron mountain, to which founder of the chain sells, in the life called and then at Meinl. The first PAM PAM market was that one at the Kreilplatz in 19. District. The next markets developed in the filter well lane and in the sand direction lane. Until 1998 Pam Pam counted 41 locations, about which approximately 20 was in Vienna. The remainder distributed itself over the Lands of the Federal Republic. In the spring 1999 first central and westAustrian locations were sold at REWE; in May the markets went into Vienna, Lower Austria and castle country to SAVE.
