The service designation junior lawyer lead persons, who become active after final higher education in the period of instruction (Referendariat) for the higher service of the public administration or for the teaching profession at schools. The training is incumbent on usually the Landesverwaltungen, which seized for this training regulations.

In addition, besides building junior lawyers for the public building administration or veterinarian junior lawyers for the national offices for veterinarian investigation e.g. become. For these regularly a career examination is prescribed.

After conclusion of the period of instruction the designation Assessor could be led. However this became to a large extent uncommon. Pay-legally these designations are however quite still led.

The title "“junior lawyer"” is protected and may be led only with the public permission to the period of instruction. An abuse of the title can be punishable after "§ 132a StGB.
