The term Kanzlei (v. ital.: ) today usually the office of an attorney (law office) marks CAN cellos = separation barriers for work spaces. With court the department responsible for the execution of documents and the execution of the correspondence is called record office.

In Switzerland the term is today still usual for the designation of headquarters of governments, see municipal office, state chancellery or Bundeskanzlei.

Also in Austria the term for administrative mechanisms e.g. the federal army ("“Sicherheitskanzlei"”, "“Kanzleischreiber"”) is common.
