Karl Herxheimer (* 26. June 1861 in Wiesbaden; "† 6 December 1942 in Theresienstadt) was a German physician.

Karl Herxheimer was the elfte child of a wealthy family, which brought several well-known physicians out. It studied a syphilitischen brain illness in Freiburg, peppering castle and Strasbourg and attained a doctorate 1885 in peppering castle over Lues cerebri. Afterwards it worked first as an assistant of Carl refuses, a cousin of Paul Ehrlich, at pathological Institut in Frankfurt/Main. In Breslau it received its dermatologische training with Albert Neisser. Karl Herxheimer was affected very strongly by his brother Dr. Salomon Herxheimer. This had established itself after its training in Vienna with Ferdinand of Hebra 1874 in Frankfurt as a skin physician and 1876 a hospital for striking and sex diseases had created. Karl followed 1887 first its brother. Co-operation continued after 1894, when Karl Herxheimer became to appoint 1884 as the director/conductor of the skin department of the created urban hospital in Frankfurt Saxonia living.

it created 1895 together with Carl Touton from Wiesbaden and Friedrich hammer from Stuttgart the South West German Dermathologenvereinigung. After its brother Salomon Herxheimer had an accident 1899 on a mountain tour deadly, he became also for its hospital a leading physician. It developed to the prominent Dermatologie of its time. It described in detail before for the first time from Adolf Jarisch (1850-1902) published, later after both designated Jarisch Herxheimer reaction. This exists in temporary flashing of disease symptoms by substantial exciter decay with beginning of the treatment, in former times with mercury, arsenic or bismuth preparations, today just as e.g. with penicillin preparations, with Syphilis. Although never habilitiert, he was appointed 1907 due to his extraordinary scientific and medical achievements the professor and received to 1914 the Ordinariat for striking and sex diseases of the University of Frankfurt/Main, whose joint founder was he.

To its 60. Birthday was published an anniversary publication by friends and pupils (Springer, Berlin 1921). Only three years after excess of the age limit it emeritierte. Also after its retirement Karl Herxheimer with his Mrs. Thekla remained resident in Frankfurt/Main, although he possessed a house in Switzerland. In the year 1933 the status of the Emeritus was extracted from it and 1941 received it house arrest. On 1 September 1942 the university administration indicated it with the Gestapo, which kidnapped it and its wife despite their high age same tags.

Karl Herxheimer was murdered on 6 December 1942 in Theresienstadt. Its wife was kidnapped after the campcamp camp Auschwitz and is since then verschollen.
