The Kaufmannschaft to Luebeck is since 1853 the union of the old Kaufmannskollegien in the Hanseatic city Luebeck.
By the revolution year 1848 the inhabitants of the city the citizen became on an equal footing also in Luebeck, so that the right of the Kaufleutekompagnien (Gilden) was allotted to exclusive agency in advice and citizenry. To that extent the eight Kompagnien existing up to then since the Middle Ages (the buyer Kompagnie, the Rigafahrer, preservation driver, Stockholm driver, Novgorodfahrer, garb cutter, mountain driver and shopkeeper Kompagnie became; the once so powerful circle company was already before extinct) combined by law of the of state from 18 June 1853 with their agreement into the Kaufmannschaft. The Kaufmannschaft was first a public mechanism, which each manufacturing one in Luebeck had to join. At the same time the first Chamber of Commerce with the tasks of a restaurant authority developed as an executive committee of the Kaufmannschaft, into which 18 representatives of the Kaufmannschaft were selected. This regulation had existence up to the loss of the national self-sufficiency of Luebeck by the large Hamburg law in the year 1937, with which Luebeck received Prussian a Chamber of Commerce and industrie.
Today the Kaufmannschaft represents the interests of its members and the economics. Besides it fulfills social tasks in the city after its order for statute.
