In military armed forces the Kommandierende officer (English "commanding more officer (CO) ") is an officer, who has the command of a military unit.
The Kommandierende officer is usually a highest officer of this unit and also Disziplinarvorgesetzter. Therefore it has also high responsibility (e.g. Observance that Geneva conventions, employment of the unit and supervision of finances) in addition, obligations (e.g. Completion of the order and readiness of application of its unit) and rights (e.g. Punishment of personnel under its command). It can have each officer rank. However it gives usually more officers than command posts, therefore the command service is an important condition for transports.
The Kommandierende officer is supported by its first officer, who is responsible for affairs of personnel and the daily service happening. Larger federations have usually a whole set of staff officers.
In the British Army, with which is Royal marine and other Commonwealth armed forces the title of the Kommandierenden of officer commanders of larger units (starting from battalion size) reserved. Here the Kommandierende holds nearly always the rank lieutenant Colonel and usually only as "the Colonel "is designated. The commander of a smaller unit, e.g. a company is designated usually than "Officer Commanding "(degrees). Officers and NCOs, who have the command over courses or groups, are called only commander ("COMM other "). In the Royal air Force is intended the title of the Kommandierenden of officer for the commander of a relay or a squadron.
In the Royal Navy and US Navy carries the kommandierende officer of a ship, a basis or a unit the title. Independently of that its rank he is addressed with "Captain "or more informally than "Skipper ".
