Life

Brodmann finally studied medicine in Munich, peppering castle, Berlin and in Freiburg in mash gau, where he locked 1895 its study. Subsequently, it went to the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and worked then on the university clinic in Munich. 1898 it acquired the Dr. med. at the University of Leipzig with a work over the chronic ependymale Sklerose. 1900 to 1901 he worked on the psychiatric hospital of the University of Jena and the urban mental hospital in Frankfurt/Main. There it met on Alois Alzheimer, which encouraged it to concern itself with neuroscientific basic research.

Due to this suggestion Brodmann went 1901 to Oskar Vogt to private Institut "“neurobiological central station"” into Berlin, from which 1902 the "“neurobiological laboratory"” of the University of Berlin and 1915 the institute for emperor William for brain research came out.

In the following years Brodmann worked on the University of where he habilitierte himself and 1913 professor became. to 1916 he went to resounds working over on the hospital rivet hole-evenly and finally accepted 1918 a call to the University of Munich as a director/conductor of the Histologie of the psychiatric research center.

Scientific achievements

1909 published Brodmann its results for the cell architecture of the cerebral cortex ("“comparative localization teachings of the cerebral cortex in their principles represented due to their cellular construction"”). It divided the cerebral cortex according to histological criteria into 52 areas (designated after it today as Brodmann areas). In addition those e.g. count

  • AREA 4 of the primarymotor Cortex on the Gyrus praecentralis the frontal rag
  • Areae 41 and 42, which form the primary hearing crust in the speed ral rag
  • Areae 44 and 45: Broca area
  • Areae 1, 2 and 3 of the primary somatosensorischen Cortex on the Gyrus postcentralis the Parietallappens
  • and the AREA 17 of the primary visual Cortex as well as the Areae 18 and 19 of the secondary visual Cortex in the Occipitallappen
