The Korporal (Corporal [English], Caporal [frz.], of caput [lat.] = the head) is in many armed forces the lowest rank of the NCOs. In accordance with the international NATO rank classification it is equated however with the Stabsgefreiten of the German Federal Armed Forces.

  • France, Great Britain, the Netherlands: In France and Great Britain the transport takes place to the Korporal after existence of a separate training course. In the Netherlands one becomes "„Korporaal "“after a longer service in crew rank.
  • Switzerland: In Swiss army the Korporal is the lowest NCO degree. Up to the army reform XXI it fulfilled the function of the group leader. Since this function is taken over by the Wachtmeister is reserved the Korporalsrang specialized specialist without guide function.
  • Austria: In the Austrian federal army the Korporal is the second highest load rank.
  • Prussia: In Prussia "„the Corporal managed "“a squad strong up to 30 men. The Corporal ranked between the Gefreiten and the Sergeanten and/or sergeants. The designation Corporal was changed 1856 in "„NCO "“. As Freikorporal to 1807 (noble) the cadets were designated.
