History

Already since 1742 at the location of the today's Brennerei Lagavulin whisky was manufactured. The first legal Brennerei was created however only 1816 by John John clay/tone, in the following year was added a further by Archibald Campbell created: Ardmore; not to confound with Ardmore in Kennethmont to no purchase exists. After both Brennereien came into the possession of Donald John clay/tone, this 1837 to the today's Brennerei Lagavulin were folded up. 1927 came the Destillerie to the Distillers company Limited (DCL), which paints the operational guidance 1930 to its daughter Scotish Distillers (SMD) delegated. From 1908 to 1960 there was on the area still another further Brennerei: Mill. paints today is into their the visitor center. The Destillerie was several times shut down for short time in the past: 1918, 1941 to 1945 and 1952 to 1953.

Production

The water of the Brennerei belonging to the region Islay originates from the two Solan of hole at the Beinn Sholum (347 m). The used Malz is referred from the haven inches Maltings. Lagavulin had a Maischbottich (mash do) (4,32t) from stainless steel and 10 fermenting tanks (wash-out backs) (for each 21.300l) from Pinienholz. One distills in two wash-out stills (for each 10.700l) and two spirit stills (for each 12.300l) by steam to be heated up. Before the racking into the 250l of barrels, so-called Hogsheads, for maturing that is diluted new make with water on 63,4%.

Products

Hardly a Brennerei has a as large success with a in such a way limited product range as Lagavulin. Long time was only the 16 year old filling available, only a few years ago was added a second regular filling. In the meantime there are still few further original fillings. Independent fillings of these whiskies are rare, if a barrel should reach nevertheless another must these however another name select, since the name Lagavulin may be used only from the Brennerei.

16 Years old

A typical "„Inselwhisky "“, very strongly, torfig and rauchig, with a very long outlet. From the Classic Malts series is this the oldest and at most sold whisky. The Brennerei seems to have partial delivery bottlenecks due to the high demand, so that customers stand pretty often forwards for empty shelves in the (as reaction to it the came out in barrel strength).

Pedro Finished

The Distillers edition of the Lagavulin was stored in Pedro barrels. By the influences of these barrels and by a longer ripe time a part of its strength is taken to the whisky, however it becomes at the same time still more complex and more versatile.

12 Years old, Cask Strength

Only 2002 were introduced this filling. Possible reason for it might be among other things of the supplies for the Lagavulin, which is justified by the demand risen extremely in the previous years. Such a bottleneck can be overcome by falling back to recent classes thus at short notice. By the shorter storage time and the high alcohol content of approx. 58 % this filling is still more intensive than the normal filling. In the time before the Classic Malts (1988) gave it to 12 year old Lagavulin with 43 %, the predecessor today's 16 Years of the old. This was still more intensive and emerges now and then with auctions.

25 Years old, Cask Strength

The oldest and most expensive original filling with 57,2 % in an edition of only 9000 bottles.
