Laphroaig (speak: la-froig," beautiful one lowers Destillerie for whisky on the Scottish island Islay at the broad bay
Laphroaig lies in a small, to today quite nature-left bay. The Destillerie, a farm Brennerei for the internal requirement, was originally created officially 1815 by the two brothers Donald & Alex John clay/tone. Already her father John established one of the two illegal Brennereien, from which late Lagavulin should become. In addition there was from 1837 to 1848 on today from the Destillerie used area still another further Brennerei: The old Ardenistle Distillery (also as Islay Distillery or Kildalton Distillery admits) of Andrew & James stone. The water for the production originated, like this very day, from the Kilbride Dam.
After the legend Donald John clay/tone 1847 a death probably ideal for the lover of its products died: It fell under the influence of the whisky into a filled barrel and drowned. The Brennerei remained until 1954 in family estate. The last from the John clay/tone clan, Ian Hunter, left the company of its secretary Bessie Williamson. Bessie sold 1967 at Long John Distillers, led the Destille however still, until she sat down to 1972 to the peace. 1923 and 1969 were purchased in each case two further Stills. 1974 were added the last fuel blister, with which the number rose to altogether sieved. When Long John Distillers came up 1975 in Whitbread, which again to Allied Domecq belonged, also Laphroaig changed the owner. Allied Domecq was taken over 2005 by Pernod Ricard, these had itself however, in order to fulfill the editions of the office for trust, from Laphroiag to separate, so that now Beam is global Spirits & Wine a daughter of Fortune Brands the new owner.
The southernmost of the Islay Brennereien has depots, which are directly because of the sea and are washed around with high wave course by the water. The seawater, the salty sea-air and the peat, which come from Destillerie own fields on Islay (Glenmachrie Peat Moss) and a high Moos portion exhibits, should be considerably for the unmistakable taste of the Malts responsible. However allesMalz from own production, a part does not originate by the haven inches Maltings is bought to go with.
The plant, in which this whisky is manufactured, consists of a Maischbottich (mash does) (8.5 tons), six steel fermenting tanks (wash-out backs) (ever 42,000 litres), three wash-out stills (of for each 10.910l) and four spirit stills (3 x 3630l, 1 x 7270l) under steam beaconing. The annual production is with approx. 2 million litre (conditions 2000).
Of the Destillerie gives it a multiplicity of fillings, a list over 200 can in the Internet in the Laphroaig archives (http://laphroaig.whisky-datenbank.de/) to be found.
