The space undertaking NPO S.A. Lavochkin (Russian: . ) was created 1937 as OKB (experimental design engineering department) of the Soviet technical designer Semjon Alexejewitsch Lavochkin. As an employee centers aero and hydrodynamic institute and later than directors/conductors of its own office he developed weapons and combat aircraft. The early constructions carry G for the letter in the name beside "the La "for "Lavochkin "also twice ""- for the team members Gudkow and Gorbunow. particularly during the Second World War was Lavochkin by the development of the La-5 and the La-7 of importance. The La-9 and La-11 were the last piston motor hunters of Soviet air forces.
The postwar developments are in the west few well-known. On 26 December 1948 Lavochkin La-176 reached for the first time a Soviet airplane supersonic speed with. Last airplane program was the unfortunate La-250 for its time at that time in the Soviet Union was unique.
To the death of Semjon Lavochkin in the year 1960 shifted the emphasis of the design engineering department on cruise missiles, surface-to-air rockets and space travel projects. Substantial technical components of the Soviet moon and Planetenmissionen as well as achievement-increasing upper stages for the Soyuz and Proton booster rockets were developed with Lavochkin. The NPO Lavochkin come out from the OKB is today particularly in space technology active.
With Lavochkin most interplanetary space probes of the Soviet Union (and later also Russia) were developed and built, among other things:
In addition by NPO Lavochkin the Fregat upper stage is manufactured at present, which is used with the Soyuz rocket. Also the satellite Cosmos 1 equipped with Sonnensegeln was built with Lavochkin.
