End of the fifties developed the businessman William P. Lear a twin-jet business aircraft. For production and marketing of its draft he created the Swiss American aviation corporation (SAAC) in Switzerland. Lears business aircraft should get the name SAAC-23.

Since he saw better market chances for his development in the USA, Lear shifted the company headquarters 1962 after Wichita, Kansas. There the assembly now of the Learjet of airplane mentioned, the Learjet No. 1 began in February. The wing came from the luckless Swiss combat aircraft FFA P-16.

In April 1963 the Lear jet corporation from the SAAC, which leads the first prototype on 7 October 1963 to its successful first flight, develops. Well one year later, on 13 October 1964 is delivered the first Serienmaschine, a Learjet 23.Die machine finds good customer resemblance and it is in such a way developed further. 1966 develop the model Learjet 24. William P. Lear leaves 1969 the company. But Lear jet Industries Inc. merge. to base together with the gates aviation around the new society gate Learjet.

The model 25 is equipped 1972 with the Garret AiResearch TFE-731-2 turbines. It concerns a turbofan engine, which is substantially quieter and more economical than the engines used so far. Likewise in this year Learjet receives as first manufacturers from business trip jets the permission from fastened runways to start to be allowed.

The new model Learjet 35 starts on 22 August 1973 to its first flight. In the year after this type and the Learjet 36 receive the permission.

1975 become the 500. Learjet delivered.

The new models of the Learjet 24/25 series receive the permission to 1977, in order to operate at a value of 15545 m, up to then unequalled for an airliner. On 24 August of the same yearly the first flight of the model Learjet 28 takes place.

To 14. May 1978 dies William P. Lear.

1979 the permission of the types Learjet 28/29 takes place. On 19 April the prototype of the completely new series Learjet 54/55/56 starts to its first flight. 1980 become the 1000. Learjet delivered. In the following years many detail improvements of the existing types are implemented. Versions with increased range develop. 1983 procure the US Department of Defense 80 machines of the type Learjet 35. A space travel department is created, which receives also the addition later to produce components for the solids-propellant booster rocket of the space shuttle. In the autumn 1984 production is temporarily stopped by airplanes, until the too large stocks are diminished. In the year 1986 new manufacturing plants are referred in Tucson, Arizona and the management is laid there. Subsequently, the aircraft production is again raised. In the autumn 1987 the Integrated Acquisition, Inc. transfers. control of the gates Learjet corporation, shortly thereafter is renamed the company in Learjet corporation.

On 29 June 1990 bombards the Learjet Corporation.Der Learjet takes over stands also with bombards under constant advancement.
