Leonhart fox (* 17 January 1501 born in whom thing in the Ries, "† 10. May 1566 in was a German plant-well-informed physician.

Fox studied 1519 in Ingolstadt among Professor Reuchlin, became 1524 doctor of the medicine, crossed to the protest anti-mash and received after one consequently moved lives a Professur of the medicine in

Fox is considered as one of the fathers of the botany. He wrote over 50 books and disputations. Its large fame it owes primarily to its herb books. 1542 appeared in Latin language its first herb book, 1543 the most influential "“new Kreuterbuch"” as German translation. In this work over 400 European and 100 exotic plants are described and represented in woodcuts.

After fox the Fuchsien (Fuchsia) is designated. However fox knew the plant, which carries its name, never. When the Missionar and Botaniker Charles Plumier designated it 1696/1697 in South America discovered and after the Leonhart fox estimated of it, this was already 130 years dead.
