Loviisa [] (schwed. Lovisa) is a city in south Finland. It lies at the southeast coast of the country, between Porvoo and Kotka, and had 2003 7371 inhabitants. Loviisa was created 1745 as fortress town against Russia.

That is very interesting 1856 in the style of an Italian rule house established city hall. Like the church of 1865 it is a work of the architect Theodor Chiewitz. Loviisa is however less well-known for these objects of interest, but rather than location for in

Nuclear power station

In Finland four nuclear reactors in enterprise are, of it two WWER reactors of Soviet design and two boiling water reactors. The two reactors of the type WWER-440 with a net achievement from 488 MW each are in Loviisa and by the society Fortum Oy are operated. In order to fulfill the Finnish safety regulations, particularly a new not version common in Russia had to be developed. The reactors are since 1977 and/or 1981 in enterprise.

Ultimate waste disposal

In the ultimate waste disposal Loviisa are stored weak and centralradioactive wastes (LAW and/or MAW). It was established on the island haste cross-beams in Rapakivi granite and covers a cavity in 120 m depth for solidified wastes and tunnel for drying wastes from the maintenance. The capacity amounts to 113,000 m The possibility of a capacity extension is taken into account, in order to take up also quiet putting wastes. With the establishment in February 1993 one began. The first part (for weak-radioactive maintenance wastes) was finished placed in the spring 1997. The first wastes were stored in May 1997.
