Karl Albert Ludwig Aschoff (* 10 January 1866 in Berlin; "† 24 June 1942 in Freiburg in mash gau) was a German pathologist. It studied in Bonn, where it belonged the Burschenschaft Alemannia, in Strasbourg and in peppering castle.

After its Habilitation 1894 he was appointed in September 1901 in Goettingen the professor for pathology. 1903 he took over the chair for pathological anatomy at the University of Marburg, 1906 it as the full professor in Freiburg was appointed.

Aschoffs research work led it and others 1904 to the discovery small rheumatischer knot at the heart muscle, which was designated after it. With its pupil Sunao Tawara it described 1906 the AV-knots, partly this very day than Aschoff Tawara knots designation. 1908 it published pathological anatomy as a publisher the text book.

Numerous journeys abroad and - stays among other things to England, Canada, Japan and into the USA led to move international connections, whereby in particular the connections proved to Japan as very fruitful: In early 20 the century was occasionally 23 occupied by 26 chairs at Japanese pathological institutes with pupils Aschoffs.

Its son Aschoff (1913-1988) was a director at the institute for Max-Planck for behavior physiology and one the founder of the Chronobiologie.
