The machine writing investigation is a kriminalistische proceeding, in order to draw conclusions on the typewriter, the author and the point of creation time of a document.
During the investigation of the typewriter writings different methods are used: The technology of the writing comparison gives information over type of machine and the approximate year of construction to a typewriter. For this method reference lists of the typewriter manufacturers are needed, how they are present e.g. in the
Further the wear of the types in the typeface can be recognized and be consulted for a rough temporal classification of a document.
The investigation of the ribbon color as well as the chemical composition of the ink permit statements about ribbon manufacturers and approximate point of assignment.
For complete decoding of the machine writing complex methods (after D. Eberwein) are used, which can be accomplished only by trained specialists. It concerns the letter analysis, the determination of the ribbon feed direction and ribbon speed as well as the individual notice force method (see Eberwein, Nietz write ball, P. 51, FF.).
With the ribbon feed direction and ribbon speed method it is possible, all texts within a ribbon direction (independent of the Schreibmaschinentyp), to arrange chronologically and besides very exactly to assign to a certain place on the ribbon. This method is so exact that even missing Typoskripte can be arranged temporally and be defined in its possible length.
Further each user leaves an individual "„finger mark by the variation of his notice strength " in the typeface of the Typoskripte, whereby typed texts can be assigned to their respective author. The alleged anonymity of the machine writing was waived with these special methods.
By the research methods mentioned it became for the first time possible to determine the author of the following typewriter poem as well as the point of typing hours clearly.
(Friedrich Nietz, on 16 February 1882; see Eberwein, Nietz write ball, P. 51, FF.).
