With respect to the economic science, between political economy and management economics one differentiates. The management economics can be subdivided into general management economics and special management economics. The general management economics, are concerned with questions in all enterprises in the same form arise. Such questions would be Controlling, marketing, organization, production, finances, investment etc. special management economics are e.g. e.g. transporting enterprise economics, insurance and bank management economics or even the tourism management economics.   • Definition: The management economics of the tourism, are concerned with the economic procedures of the achievement production and the achievement utilization in the routistic enterprises with consideration that it surrounding economic sectors.

The occupation with the management economics of the tourism covers a far field. Economical management fields such as marketing, organization, finance management, personnel management, planning/Controlling and guidance e.g. become on the routistic enterprises like tour operators and - intermediaries, routistic airlines, hotel companies, target area agencies or enterprises of the routistic catering trade transfer. On the other side, the tourism management economics still stand on wackligen legs. To the discussion it stands to what extent it itself with the general economiceconomics beginnings of the tourism, over an independent science range - a tourism economics, or whether it concerns only a general science beginning of the general economic science.

The major task of the management economics of the tourism is it, with the achievement production employed tourism enterprises to analyze and describe. The BWL of the tourism is interested particularly in the expirations and processes in routistic enterprises. It concerns strictly speaking the different principles of organization. How is the tourism enterprise How do the structure and sequence organisation in the enterprise Likewise it concerns the decisions from enterprises and from operational subranges and/or - funktioen, which are busy with the production of the routistic achievements.

Among the tourism-specific enterprises tour operator, travel mediator, tourism office, tourist boards etc. most of the tourism enterprises provided achievements rank for example routistic carrier, accommodating enterprises, are services. To that extent the tourism management economics have a great many thing in common with the BWL von Dienstleistungsunternehmen. The special of the tourism achievement is however that this achievement from their nature is a service, which is furnished by different routistic service providers (example package tour: Travel agency (sales), flight (transfer), bus to the hotel (transfer), hotel (accommodating), trip (travel line).

The special management economics of the tourism can be divided again into special management economics. For the tourism relevant management economics are the BWL of the tour operators and BWL of the travel intermediaries/travel agency these two special management economics could as over term as tourism BWL be designated. Likewise relevantly are the BWL of routistic aviation, BWL of the Zielgebietsargenturen, BWL of the hotel enterprises as well as if necessary the BWL (routistic) of the catering trade. A community all this special management economics of the tourism is, which they concern themselves with economically relevant activities and aspects of the travel quiet achievement/travel service achievements.

Freyer writes that the economical aspect of the tourism all economical procedures, which emerge during the individual phases of the travel treated. As relevant travel phases call it, the travel preparation (at the place of residence), travel execution and the stay at the "“strange"” place (in the target area). The management economics of the tourism can be divided in principle into functional and institutional tourism management economics.

Functional management economics of the tourism

Among the functional BWL of the tourism functions rank such as purchase, bookkeeping, marketing, production, personnel"… Likewise the organizational allocation of the functional areas as well as the normative, strategic and operational arrangement are located here in the center. For the tourism thereby the functional subranges result "„tourism management "“, "„personnel managements in the tourism "“, "„Touristi marketing "“etc., which is analyzed independently of the individual kinds of tourism enterprises (W. FREYER; Tourism marketing 1997). In form of the functional BWL of the tourism the tourism-specific characteristics of the different operational functions are analyzed, like e.g.:

- routistic managerial policy or tourism management
- Production in the tourism or routistic achievement production"….

Institutional management economics

The institutional BWL of the tourism concentrates on the institutional characteristics of the tourism enterprises. It examines the characteristics of the different kinds of tourism enterprises. Examples: Hotel BWL, BWL for tour operator, BWL for Destinationen. The difference to the functional BWL of the tourism is that the institutional BWL of the tourism states the institutional characteristics (and thing in common) of individual kinds of tourism enterprises more exactly in place of the analysis of in-house tasks (functions) of tourism enterprises in the context of the routistic management teachings. Thus e.g. tour operators or hotels are treated, it develop thus one "„for Reiseveranstaler BWL "“and one "„hotel BWL "“. In practice the institutional view is however usually connected with a functional analysis, so that this leads to a further Ausdifferenzierung of the tourism management economics: "„Management for accommodating enterprises "“or "„marketing for tour operators "“earliest exhibits the BWL of the tourism parallel to the BWL of the services enterprises, because with most achievements in the tourism it concerns personal services. Rudolph generally writes in its book tourism management economics to the management economics and/or to special management economics:

"“Special management economics or industry teachings examine the conversion of the realizations of the general management economics in the single sciences of the branches on low abstraction step. In addition the industry which can be examined must experience as clear a demarcation as possible. A scientifically satisfying definition occurs the more heavily, the more the operating economical practice for and the same article various and always new concept formations draws, to their respective preference to be usually only historically explained can."” (RUDOLPH, tourism management economics 1999 P. 2)

Rudolph still adds that the circumstance specified above particularly applies to the investigation article of the tourism management economics.
