Market Maker, market male nurse or also Marktmacher one calls a broker, whose major task exists in the publication of obligatory on ("“bid"”) and selling rates ("“ask"”) of quoted articles.

The Market Maker may at any time change the courses placed by it ("“quotes"”) with sequential quotation. Upon the requests of a certified market participant the Market Maker is obligated to buy and/or sell to these courses.

The remuneration of its service exists in the span ("“spread"”) between on and selling rate of transacted conversions.

The operational readiness level of the Market Makers promotes a continuous trade and improves the liquidity in the respective market, it has however by its position the possibility on a low-risk profit, which overreaches it opposite the regular market participants, so that these must pay him its profit (Spread).

Thus it is not "“protection gel"”, but interests naturally particularly in its low-risk incomes.

To the NASDAQ implement Market Maker companies the Orders of their customers or their own Orders and constitute a majority of the trade to the NASDAQ. There are at present altogether 550 Market Maker companies, from which 10 is however only approximate really of importance. All market Maker in the USA member of the NASD (national Association OF Securities Dealers) must be and fulfill certain conditions, as e.g. show a certain minimum capital. The Market Maker can on the basis a contraction four digit, which so-called Market Maker Identifier, to which MMID are identified.

Also at the most important German stock exchange, the Frankfurt stock exchange, Market Maker are active. In their electronic commercial system Xetra are called them Designated of sponsor, with international shares, which are acted there, the Xetra of star, are active so-called Market Experts.
