Maternity leave is the colloquial, not completely correct name for the occupation prohibitions for women in the temporal connection with a relieving. In Germany these are contained for employees in the law protecting working mothers and for woman officials in the maternity protection regulation of the federation and/or the parallel regulations of the countries.

The designation "“vacation"” is in this connection already therefore misleading, since the occupation prohibitions do not serve the exemption of the persons employed of the work, in order them determined other activities possible (recovery, child education, advanced training etc.) make. A goal is rather the protection from dangers, which would threaten (becoming) the nut/mother during continued employment.

In former times the term maternity leave for the exemption was used for the child education, before it was finally replaced first by maternity leave and by parents time (see "§ the 8a-8d law protecting working mothers painted now).
