Megaradio was a privately operated broadcasting corporation, which in Germany and Luxembourg (RTL transmitter Marnach) from 1997 to 2003 from different locations a Popmusikprogramm in the medium-wave band radiated.
The operators of megaradio strove for all, free medium wave frequencies, in order after the introduction of DRM in this mode of operation, available in Germany, which permits a program transmission in UKW quality in the medium-wave band, to spread their program. For the mechanism of the transmitters of megaradio numerous transmitting plants were converted and extended partially at large expenditure. However an introduction of the DRM procedure in the rule enterprise was not possible 2003 ago and for megaradio had because of high costs of the rent of the partially very efficient transmitters and because of missing incomes from advertising, which were due also to the small Bekanntheitsgrad of the transmitter, starting from March of 2003 serious financial problems, which were last very well covered to. In addition an internal controversy of the partners over the future of the transmitter and the following consequence came to transact no more investments into the project. On 4 April 2003 at 13 o'clock placed to megaradio, which was the only German-language one the Popmusiksender apart from SWR3 and power 612, whose waves extended far abroad, because of insolvency the transmit mode in.
