Melaku Worede (* 1936) is a Genetiker and biologist.

Worede studied genetics at the university of Nebraska. From 1979 to its retirement 1993 he was a director of the Vavilov center in Addis Abeba. in few years developed he a seed bank with ten thousands plant types. From 1993 on he worked on the Seeds OF Survival project, in which the delivered knowledge is connected to that of the farmers with western science and technology.

Melaku Worede was distinguished 1989 "“for a project pointing the way for the durable fight of hunger by the structure one of the best centers of the world for retaining of seeds and their employment for the receipt of the diversity of species and the wisdom of the African farmers for the use of entire mankind"” with alternatives the Nobelpreis.
