Melchior how/as country (* 1519 or 1520; " 1589; also Melchior Guilandinus; Melchiorre Guilandino; Melchioris Guilandini Borussi) was a German physician, Botaniker and a traveler.
Melchior began its career as a traveler herb dealer in Italy. It excited the attention of the venetianischen Ambassador in Rome, who presented it to wealthy sponsors.
It was assigned by the university by Padua to undertake a journey to small Asia and North Africa in order to collect plant samples there. There were at that time many such botanische expeditions. Here he was taken prisoner by Piraten and remained some years as a slave in Algeria. Finally its ransom was paid by Gabriele Falloppio and it returned to Italy. 1561 he became a director of the botanischen gardens in Padua. There he attained also the chair for Botanik.
It was of Pietro Andrea Mattiolis numerous academic enemies.
