mephisto 97,6 is the restaurant radio of the University of Leipzig and the first licensed university radio of Germany.

The radio sends Monday in each case until Friday from 10 to 12 and 18 to 20 o'clock in the region Leipzig on the UKW frequency 97.6 MHz and in the Leipziger cable system on 93.6 MHz and can from over one million humans in the transmission area be received. The seat of the editorship and the Sendestudios is that seminar building of the university at the Augustusplatz.

Idea

A goal of mephisto 97,6 is the connection of training in sound broadcasting and radio practice under material conditions of work. Thus works mephisto 97,6 since kind of sending to 31. May 1995 in a double role: as training transmitters of the university and as Lokalsender with own license.

In contrast to most other university transmitters mephisto 97,6 makes a program of, but not only for students. As restaurant program there is neither live-transmissions from the lecture-room still another announcement of the refectory meal - instead current information for all, which have interest in the happening into and around Leipzig. The average word portion of all transmissions is thereby with at least 40 per cent.

The daily program arrange voluntary and free excluding students in absolute sole responsibility -, from the simple reporter to the editor-in-chief.

History

Students and line of the institute for communication and medium science of the University of Leipzig already pursued the idea of a university radio since 1992. As the first impact on the days of the open door in May 1993 and 1994 first transmissions on the Campus were radiated, produced with the technology still existing from GDR times.

As the Saxonian institute for national medium (SLM) for Leipzig the frequency 97.6 MHz wrote, in seminars a concept out for a university radio was prepared. After a hearing at the medium advice in September 1994 mephisto 97,6 received the addition for the frequency and thus the possibility of radiating up to six hours program per working-day. Up to now of it four hours are used daily.

With the own transmission license as Leipziger Lokalsender are also some editions connected: For the program a word portion of at least 40 per cent is prescribed. In addition mephisto no advertisement may radiate 97,6. Only certain program items, like e.g. firm columns, may be gesponsort and presented.

To many sample transmissions, preparatory courses and format discussions mephisto 97,6 went to 31. May 1995 around 18:00 clock on transmission.

Transmission pattern

In in the morning rail between 10 and 12 o'clock is sent work-daily the morning magazine punch. In the evening hours o'clock the news magazine direct runs from 18 to 19. Messages are sent in this time each half hour.

In the "“fourth hour in such a way specified"” between 19 and 20 o'clock daily changing special topic transmission in a weekly rhythm are sent, among other things a radio play ending, a cinema, music and an interview magazine.
