Michael Phelps Ward (* 26. March 1925 in London; "† 7 October 2005 in Lurgashall, England) was a British surgeon and mountain climber. It was married since 1957 with Jane Ewbank and had a son.

Biografie

Michael Ward locked its study of the medicine with a doctor title. Its private passion for to extreme mountain pastes it could connect with the medical research. It was interested thereby in particular in the influence of the height on the physiology and Akklimatisation. A focus of its research was thereby on the elevator illness about which one knew only very little at this time.

1951 were Michael Ward as well as Eric Shipton member of an Himalaya expedition in Nepal, in order to explore a new route on the Mount Everest. With the expedition 1953 with the historical Erstbesteigung of the Mount Everest of Sir Edmund Hillary Michael Ward was then involved as an expedition physician. Also after it further research expeditions led it into the mountain regions of the Himalaya. With an expedition in the spring of the yearly 1961 under the direction of Edmund Hillary Michael Ward as well as Wally of novel, Michael Gill succeeded (NZ) as well as Barry Bishop (the USA) the Erstbesteigung of the 6856 m high Ama Dablam. Since the summit attack took place however without permission of the authorities, afterwards to 1979 no permission for renewed mounting of the Ama Dablam was given.

In the years 1964 to 1993 Ward worked as a surgeon in London. From 1978 on it was besides as a lecturer at the Royal London hospital Medical college actively. In the same year he was selected also to the chairman of the Mount Everest Foundation and stopped this office until 1980. On 7 October 2005 Dr. Michael Ward in Lurgashall in the county west Sussex died.
