This typewriter was developed 1903 by Friedrich of Hefner Alteneck and built in the years 1904 to 1934 by the AEG. With this typewriter a type drum was used as carrier of the representable indications (types). The type drum was exchangeable. With the model 4, which was offered starting from 1924, were over 36 different type drums available, among other things also two type drums with cyrillic letters. Starting from 1933 an improved version was sold as Olympia Plurotyp.

To each type drum a tablet (letter field) belonged with the available indications that under a pointer into the Mignon typewriter had to be clamped. With the left hand the pointer was held over the indication wished in each case. By coupled mechanics the type drum with the appropriate indication placed itself over the paper. By manipulation the printing branch with the right hand the type drum printed the indication on the paper. With a second key a blank could be obtained. With the model 4, which was built starting from 1924, still another backspace key was added. During operation of the backspace key the car was returned around a letter, in order to be able to make corrections.
