Under motor traffic one designates in principle the change of location processes of persons and goods using prime mover-driven vehicles (motor vehicles). Additionally the term serves the designation of branch of traffic "“road goods and road passenger traffic"”, whose task is the public supply of traffic services in the traffic, e.g. Bus enterprises, haulage contractors etc.

The term is used colloquially also as synonym for (road) the goods transport, although this meaning does not cover the actual task abundance of the motor traffic.
