The Musculus erector spinae (lat. "“Aufrichter of the spinal column"”) actually represents a whole group of muscles, which serve putting up and/or stretching the spinal column.
This group is to that extent the opponent of the abdominal muscles and the musculature before (with animals under) the spinal column: Ventrale neck muscles, Psoas major, Psoas minor). Except during the trunk diffraction the Erector spinae is involved forward in all Rumpfbewegungen.
