The Musculus obturator externus (lat.: outside ) is one the of the thigh. The earlier designation Musculus obturatorius externus is still valid in animal anatomy.

With Paarhufern, to which the Musculus is missing obturatorius internus, the Musculus rises obturatorius externus also at the inside of the basin (Pars intrapelvina).
