Reasons are among other things the way break of the market in Eastern Europe and East Germany. The ETZ patents were sold to the company Kanuni in the Turkey, which still continued to manufacture the models 251 and 301 some time.

By the additional purchase of four-stroke engines of Rotax one tried to work against the collapse of the demand. There however MZ after the turn still the GDR image anhing, could not ring in also this measure a change of trend.

The follow-up enterprise MuZ motorcycle and two-wheeler work GmbH, starting from 1999 MZ motorcycle and two-wheeler work GmbH moves 1993 into the new building location (at GDR times the production halls of the Zylinderschleiferei) in the Grossolbersdorfer local part high village. After some attempts at revival the malaiische company Hong Leong takes over 1996 the enterprise.

As first new developments the scorpio models (scorpio route/sport) appear, which were equipped with 660 ccm a cylinder engine by Yamaha.

With the introduction of the new blanks also internally developed engine, now four-cycle, was offered to 125. This works since 2001 also in the sister models SX (Enduro) and SM (Supermoto) and is considered as one of the strongest engines of its class.

At present the 1000 ccm row two-cylinder number of the MZ 1000 S represents the technological high point.

Today MZ manufactures motorcycles in three classes: The 660 Supermoto (also as S-variant with steeper guidance head angle, lower seating position and shorter rocker available), the new 125 ccm row blank, SM and SX and the new 996 ccm two-cylinder machines MZ 1000S (sport), 1000SF (SuperFighter) and 1000ST (SuperTraveller). The road machine scorpio is not no more produced since 2002, the Baghira Enduro disappeared for 2006 from the program.

Due to the general market situation as well as the high manufacturing costs the enterprise saw itself compelled in August 2005 to accomplish extensive Umstruktrierungen.
