NARVA was the company name of a state-owned enterprise (VEB) in the GDR, which shining means (in particular lamps) manufactured. The name consists of the abbreviations N for Nitrogenium (nitrogen), ACRE for argon as well as VA for vacuum.

History

The history of the enterprise is connected with the citizen of Berlin lamp work Osram. After the end of the war and the division beginning of Germany also the Osram company was divided. Thus district Friedrichshain produced the work D from now on as VEB citizen of Berlin lamp work "“pink Luxembourg"” starting from 1949 in the Ost-Berliner. Starting from 1963 the product name NARVA use finds, 1966 the name as brand name is registered, 1969 takes place the union with the enterprises in Plauen, upper white brook and fire Erbisdorf to the collective combine. The enterprise had alone in Berlin occasionally 5,000 to 6,000 coworkers, 1990 took place at the master seat Berlin the transformation into the society for photometric products ltd.

To unrests it thus already came in August 1952, months before 17 June 1953, the worker rebellion in the GDR. Predominantly women laid down in citizen of Berlin master enterprise work, because they protested against the operating collective contracts, with which a nightshift should be introduced. Despite negotiations with the production management the female workers could succeed with their request.

The NARVA building

Already in the middle 19. Century developed on the area of the later NARVA building of Berlin first water company, which reset 1893 the enterprise. 1894 was started attempts for waste incineration procedures. In the years 1906 to 1912 the German gas glow light AG established, the so-called Auer society (see also industrial palace), which lamp work, whose most salient building was a elfgeschossiges building, of Berlin first multistoried building. 1963 were extended the building by a glass tower. The building counts today as technical monument and serves as office building. Today the building complex carries the name upper tree town center, designated after the upper tree bridge in the proximity, around the lamp multistoried building and/or the upper tree to the Spree.

Also the nearby U-Bahnhof Warsaw bridge, which was since the building of the Wall on 13 August 1961 out of operation, was used as storage hall. On 14 October 1995 in in the meantime Warsaw road the station mentioned underground traffic was again taken up.

In some areas used formerly by NARVA are besides several Discotheken, among other things the NARVA Lounge.

1992 were adjusted production, the enterprise changed to 30. March 1996 the location.

Divisions

Arnstadt

1936 established the company DAIMON electrotechnical factory Schmidt & CO. GmbH a flashlight work. Only 1959, probably due to trademark law collisions with the part of the DAIMON work in the west, took place renaming in ARTAS - flashlight work. Because of the participation of foreign financial sources the transformation took place into a state-owned enterprise only 1970. To 1 October 1978 the enterprise the collective combine Narva was attached. The privatisation took place 1993, the enterprise firmiert today again under the name Artas.

Fire Erbisdorf

one begins 1966 with the production of fluorescent lamps, 1971 its own glass work in enterprise is then taken here. 1991 the privatisation takes place, as buildings and equipment necessary for operation were bought by an international group of investors of the trust establishment. The initiative proceeded from NARVA coworkers, who took part in the investment and which today lead company. The remaining buildings and equipment bought essentially also former NARVA coworkers, so that from the very large real estate existence today a flourishing industrial area developed also over 50 companies. NARVA firmiert today as NARVA sources of light GmbH + CO. Kg and produces fluorescent lamps in most diverse lengths, chromatic spectra and diameters, Solarienstrahler, glass tubes and energy energy-savings lamp.

Largely Glienicke

On the property yard area in the 20's by the physicist by Kramolin a laboratory was established (also called old person Manufaktur), in which of these radio tubes developed. The laboratory became of the enterprise wood apple and CO. Kg taken over, later was then converted this into a state-owned enterprise and operated than branch office from the VEB Narva Berlin. Largely Glienicke one limited however to the assembly of industrial lamps, a production did not take place itself not. The enterprise was stopped with the turn in the GDR, the building is today a house.

Upper white brook

Already since 1902 production took place from phosphors at this location. Up to the nationalization 1946 there were repeated changes of the ownership structure, 1948 the VEB lamp work upper white brook is based. 1969 the integration takes place into the NARVA federation. After the turn the enterprise is converted 1990 into the NARVA lamp work upper white brook GmbH and manufactures today primarily glass light decoration (like for example Christian tree decoration).

Oschatz

1946 took place the establishment the private electrical's building Oschatz GmbH, 1954 took place the transformation into a OHG, the enterprise became then 1956 a limited partnership. 1956 became also national banks partners, with which a first step was created for nationalization. 1972 took place the complete expropriation, the enterprise firmierte now as VEB electrical's building Oschatz. 1979 were integrated the enterprise into the NARVA collective combine. Since 1991 the enterprise is again in the possession of the old owners.

Plauen

After the reunification the work was privatisert and firmierte as Narva lamp work Plauen GmbH. 1991 took over the Philips company the enterprise, it took place a renaming in Narva special lamps GmbH.

Further mechanisms

In the GDR it was far common that large enterprises beside the actual equipment maintained also further mechanisms. Primarily this mechanisms were in the ranges education, social and spare time/sport. Thus also following schools and sport associations belonged to the collective combine NARVA.

Vocational school VEB NARVA Olga Benario Prestes

Here different occupations were trained. Partial skilled worker, skilled worker and skilled worker with Abitur. It was not far in Berlin from the rapid-transit railway yard Warsaw road.

SG NARVA Berlin

The association was created 1946 as operating sport combination citizen of Berlin lamp work. In January 1951 the association is called then operating sport community mechanics Friedrichshain, few months later finally BSG engine Friedrichshain east. 1958 renaming in BSG citizen of Berlin lamp work, 1969, after the education of the collective combine NARVA, then in BSG NARVA Berlin. The association had nearly 2,500 members (01.01.2005 - ca.450) as operating sport association. The sections hand ball, chess, Volleyball, doing gymnastics, rudders, boxes and gymnastic were cared for + Judo and football (stadium in Berlin Oberspree Tucholla stadium"”).

TSC NARVA fire Erbisdorf

1969 based, today as SSV 91 fire Erbisdorf registered association actively. The Sportverein cares for the sections bath min clay/tone, Billard, football, cones, running, chess, table tennis and Volleyball.
