Nikolaus Kopernikus (* 19 February 1473 in Thorn, Poland; " 24. May 1543 in woman castle) became with its theories of the movement of the planets on circular paths around the sun one of the most important European astronomers. With its discoveries it justified a new, after-medieval conception of the world. In addition it was Astrologe, mathematician, physician, cathedral gentleman and administrator.
The nationality of Kopernikus offered 19 since that. Century always again cause for polarizing mixer controversy - it can be transferred however hardly meaningfully to today's conditions and be indicated as excluding Polish or German. This is reflected already in the name again. In German it is generally called Nikolaus Kopernikus, due to the latinisierten version Copernicus of the original surname Koppernigk. In the Polish one it is called Mikolaj Kopernik. Kopernikus was son of a German nut/mother, the nationality of its father is unclear. Its hometown Thorn had gone briefly before its birth under the rule of the Polish king, so that it is formally regarded as Polish citizens.
