The northwestGerman broadcast (NWDR) was an institute of the public right (national broadcasting corporation) with seat in Hamburg for the countries Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as until 1954 also for West Berlin. 1955 were divided the NWDR into two independent broadcasting corporations (NDR and WDR) and heard, with the transmission beginning of NDR and WDR to exestieren on 1 January 1956 on.

The NWDR was member of the working group of the public broadcasting corporations in Germany (pool of broadcasting corporations).

History

1924 were created in Hamburg the north German broadcast AG (NORAG), to 2. May 1924 their transmit mode took up. Since 1928 was produced the transmissions in the Rothenbaumchaussee in Hamburg.

1933 were converted the north German broadcast AG into the "“north German broadcast GmbH Hamburg"”. One year later belonged it than realm transmitter Hamburg to the later largeGerman broadcast. This would send until 1945.

In postwar Germany British crew power created 1945 first radio Hamburg, which became on 22 September 1945 as northwestGerman broadcast (NWDR) common broadcasting corporation under the organization of Hugh Greene for the entire British zone. 1948 were transferred the NWDR in German hands and a "“institute of the public right"” for the Lands of the Federal Republic to Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin. First German general manager became a SPD culture politician Adolf Grimme.

The NWDR radiated first only one program (late NWDR 1). Starting from 1950 two regional radio broadcasting programs, NWDR north (late NDR 2) followed and NWDR west after UKW (late WDR 2). In the same year the NWDR was initial member of the pool of broadcasting corporations. Two years later (1952) the NWDR was considerably responsible for the reopening of the television in Germany, which took up the daily program enterprise on 25 December 1952.

To 1 June 1954 the again-created transmitter separated free Berlin (SFB) from the NWDR, in order to radiate for Land Berlin independent programs.

In February 1955 the Lands of the Federal Republic Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia regulated the broadcast in their countries again. Consequently the NWDR in two independent broadcasting corporations was divided. The north Germans should organize broadcast (NDR) with seat in Hamburg in the future for the countries Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein and the West German broadcast Cologne with seat in Cologne for the country North Rhine-Westphalia broadcast transmissions. On 1 January 1956 the two new broadcasting stations with their own radio endings started, whereby that 1. Radio broadcasting program still many years a common coat program supplied, which split up only occasionally into regional programs.

The television band of the NWDR West German broadcast federation (NWRV) took over until 1961 starting from 1 April 1956 first still north and. Then both broadcasting stations were responsible also in the television band for their respective transmission area.

Programs

The NWDR organized to 1955 three radio broadcasting programs:

• NWDR 1 - Common program over medium wave and UKW for the whole transmission area
• NWDR north - admits better than UKW north - regional program over UKW for Northern Germany from Hamburg
• NWDR west - admits better than UKW west - regional program over UKW for North Rhine-Westphalia from Cologne

Furthermore it was relevant at the first German television, which community program of the pool of broadcasting corporations takes part. There were further television programs until 1955 not yet.
