The following office designations of the German customs administration exist:

Customs officer in the period of instruction

(Official relationship on revocation)

  • Simple service: Tariff being awake master candidate (in)
  • Middle service: Tariff candidate (in) - ZAnw
  • Elevated service: Financial candidate (in) - FAnw
  • Higher service: begin not in the period of instruction but immediately in the Probezeit

Customs officer in the Probezeit

Usually the customs officers lead the auxiliary designation in the career-legal Probezeit "“z.A."” (to the employment) apart from the normal service designation. Deviations of it can result e.g. due to the regulations of the law governing job security, the one employment (omission z.A. - Already plans designation) before completion of the Probezeit, what already in the Probezeit means an employment.

  • Simple service: Tariff being awake master (in) to the employment (ZW z.A.)
  • Middle service: Tariff secretary (in) to the employment (ZS z.A.), tariff ship upper secretary (in) for employment (ZSOS z.A.)
  • Elevated service: Customs inspector (in) to the employment (di z.A.)
  • Higher service: Government advice for employment (RR z.A.)

Customs officer in the simple service

The simple service runs out, no more new employment made, past officials will become transferred it to the middle service. In the group of tariff havens there are however further officials in the simple service, since this career can be already begun with main graduation and also by persons, who completed 16 the Lebensjahr not yet. The sportsmen can hit however after completion of the sport career and/or after fulfilling the conditions the career of the middle or elevated service. (Salary bracket a2 to A 6)

  • Tariff being awake master - ZW (a2)
  • Tariff upper being awake master - ZOW (A 3)
  • Tariff main being awake master - ZHW (A 4)
  • First (r) tariff main being awake masters - EZHW (A 5/A 6)

Customs officer in the middle service

(Salary bracket A 6 to A 9)

  • Coworker/specialist (in meaning officials of the middle service are as a rule coworkers e.g. in a general customs office; more rarely - depending upon qualification and experience - also specialist)
  • Civil servant for special use (BzbV)
  • Dog leader
  • Tariff-dog-trainingwaited
  • Shoot-trainingwaited
  • Sport-trainingwaited

Customs officer in the elevated service

(Salary brackets A 9 to A 13)

  • Customs inspector - di (A 9)
  • Tariff upper supervisor - ZOI (A 10)
  • Customs office man/customs office woman - ZAM/ZAF - it can be selected also the variant "“(ZAM'in) (A 11)
  • Customs office advice - ZAR (A 12)
  • Tariff upper office advice - ZOAR (A 13)

Special functions in the elevated service (Funktionsbezeichungen, no Amtsbezeichungen):

  • Specialist
  • Customs inspector (director/conductor of a Zollkommissariates)
  • Customs office chief (agency leader of a customs office)
  • Dispatching leader (a customs office)
  • Sphere of activity leader (within a subject)
  • Subject leader (within a general customs office)

Customs officer in the higher service

(Salary brackets starting from A 13)

  • Government advice - RR (A 13)
  • Upper government advice - ORR (A 14)
  • Director of government - RD (A 15)
  • Leading director of government - LRD (A 16)
  • Financial president - FP (A 16, B 2, B 3; in B 3 only as representatives of an upper financial president of the BesGr. B 6 or 7), financial presidents lead departments or groups with a regional finance office
  • Department president of a large and important group in a regional finance office as representatives of a financial president (B 2)
  • Director during the federal monopoly administration for Branntwein as directors/conductors of the utilization place or as directors/conductors of the office for federal monopoly (B 3)
  • Upper financial president (president of a regional finance office) - OFP (B 5, B6, B 7)
  • President of the Customs Office (B 6)
  • President of the federal monopoly administration for Branntwein (B 6)

Special functions in the higher service (Funktionsbezeichungen, no Amtsbezeichungen):

  • Director/conductor of a general customs office (agency leader of a general customs office)
  • Subject leader (a general customs office)
  • Director/conductor of an office for customs investigation
  • Adviser with a regional finance office
  • Adviser in the Federal Department of Finance
  • Department manager in the Federal Department of Finance

Rank insignia

Contrary to the police (exception: Police of the country Hessen until 2002), fire-brigade and federal police does not give it with the service clothe carriers of the tariff outward demarcation characteristics. The last these characteristics were collar badge (collar cuff/collar mirror) and 1972 finally were abolished. Likewise there is no coloured distinction of the cords at the service caps more (in former times: green for the simple service, green with silver through-works for the middle service and silver for the elevated customs service); they are today uniformly silver.
