The OPEL cadet A was a vehicle of the lower middle class of OPELs. It was manufactured starting from 1962 in the particularly again established OPEL work Bochum.
With this model one let the old name "cadet" revive again. This name had been already used before the war for small OPEL models. Already 1957 received Hans Mersheimer, the chief engineer at that time the Adam OPEL AG (until 1967) of the center of the US nut/mother company general of engine the order to design a "perfect anti- VOLKSWAGEN". Mersheimer advanced the development with its crew so secretly that to today hardly something over the history of the development cadet admits of A is. Only 1960, with the commencement of construction of the new work in Bochum experienced the public that OPEL worked on a new small car. From the cadet finally a substantially more modern construction than the dominating the market VOLKSWAGEN became beetle. Above all its body was the largest strength opposite the beetle. It offered the passengers more place, better view and a much larger trunk.
The cadet A was offered in three body forms:
For the cadet A new 1.0 litre OHV SHORT-STROKE engine was also developed high-put cam shaft and 40 HP of achievement, which fundamentally from the record engines the Vorkriegszeit differs. The was supplied in series with the 1,0S-Motor increased on an output of 48 HP (there starting from September 1963 also for the other Karosserie-Varianten was - cadet "super"). This engine construction was used from OPELs with a capacity increased up to 1,2 litres and various increases in output into the 1980-he 1980 for different models.
Full and baulk synchronized 4-Gang-Schaltgetriebe, switched over a long, thin central shift lever. This 4-Gang-Getriebe and the neutral position were revolutionary, since the larger OPEL models had 3-Gang-Lenkradschaltungen at this time in series without exception.
The cadet A came altogether in 649.512 copies until 1965 off the line. In the same year it from the OPEL cadet B was replaced. In the years 1964 and 1965 besides still few thousand CKD models cadet of A in the Belgian GM work in Antwerp were installed.
To consider is the unrestaurierte original state of the vehicle. The technology is repaired, but are the first lacquer and chrome at the vehicle. The new vehicle was bought from the Erstbesitzer to the retirement and sold only, when the owner was 89 years old. At the time of the delivery to the today's owner the vehicle had driven less than 30,000 km. The radio is an early transistor version; at that time before 1965 firmly inserted tube radios were still usual. This radio is also separate an early full-functional "Take Out" - version, from the car, e.g. in the country to use.
Characteristic is also for new vehicles for a long time characteristics IS for Iserlohn, already any longer not spent, in connection with - the H for "historical vehicle". Vehicles normally receive a characteristic with "MK" for the circle.
