Captain A

The captain A had originally a 6-Zylinder of 2.6 litres of S-Reihenmotor with 74 KW (100 HP), for the first time with a 4-Gang-Schaltgetriebe. The series of 1965-68 had two engines to the selection: A 6-Zylinder of 2.8 litres of S-Reihenmotor with 92 KW (125 HP) and starting from 1967 a 6-Zylinder 2.8 litre HL Reihenmotor (high speed engine with two Zenith carburetors) with 100 KW (136 HP). With all 6-Zylinder-Motoren of the captain A and admiral A OPEL used for the first time the "“hydraulic tappets"”. They made a periodic adjusting of the valve clearance redundant and adjusted temperature differences. Additionally there was the captain A starting from 1965 on customer's request with 4.6 Liter-140 KW (190 HP) Chevrolet-V8-Maschine, which was to be found in this version only very rarely on German roads (straight 113 pieces became certified). Altogether 24,871 copies were built.

Admiral A

The admiral A is in various details revalued an execution captain A, quasi "“L"” - model like before the captain P "“L"”. The designation "“admiral"” was used by OPELs for the first time in the post-war period again for a vehicle (the first OPEL admiral was built of 1937-1939). The engine pallet corresponds accurately to the captain A. also the admiral A gave it starting from 1965 when desired with strong 140 KW (190 HP) to 4.6 Liter-Chevrolet-V8-Aggregat, which accelerated the car heavy over 1,5 t in scarcely 10 seconds of 0 to 100 km/h and made 200 km/h fast - thus however only 623 copies were delivered. Diplomat A

The diplomat A was the OPEL Top model in this time. Also the designation "“diplomat"” was new in OPEL history. It stands out against his sister models captain A and admiral A by the standard V8-Motor, electrical window lifters in front and in the back, Vinyldach, more elegant Interieur with wood ornament, large center console with mechanism selector lever and other various details. Engines

The diplomat A was delivered exclusively with achievement and torque-strong Chevrolet-V8-Motoren. First the sedan was offered to litre engine only with 4,6 (engine designation 283V) and the with 5,4 litre aggregate (327V). Later it was also possible, the sedan with the drive to orders (model: OPEL diplomat 5,4).

Transmission

Diplomat 5.4

This only 330 times sold variant possesses the chassis of the (engine, Hydramatic automatic transmission and axles).
