The OPEL Laubfrosch was the first automobile built in Germany at the assembly-line. In the spring 1924 the first OPEL rolled to 4/12 HP, so the official name, from the volume. Contrary to the then usual automobiles it was small and green instead of large and black, and by the vernacular Laubfrosch was therefore called. Approximately 120,000 pieces between 1924 and 1931 were built. In litre engine brought the car on a top speed of 60 km/h.
As Karosserievariante OPEL offered first only a two-seater with "boat tail so mentioned ". Later further models followed:
The car for everyone cost 4,500 pension Marks for the production start. Although little corresponded to the equivalent of a home of one's own contrary to other automobiles, this still. After 100.000 sold copies in the year 1930 the OPEL was available in the simple execution starting from 1.990 realm Marks.
The assembly-line production of the OPEL Laubfrosch is considered as the birth of the car of the small man in Germany.
The Laubfrosch was a plagiarism of the French 5CV and/or 5HP. During processes, which were aimed at at that time by the plagiarism reproach was rejected by German courts because of another form of the radiator grille. The most remarkable change was however the green lacquer finish - painted the car lemon-yellow.
Although the origin of the idiom is not completely clarified "the same thing ", it seems quite plausible that it is derived from the green lacquer finish of the OPEL plagiarism.
The Laubfrosch was replaced 1931 by the OPEL 1,1l, a predecessor of the OPEL cadet.
