The OPEL Monza is a on basis of the OPEL senator A von Opel.

Technically is to a large extent identical from 1977 to 1987 built OPELs the Monza to the senator and experienced also the same model care measures. It differs from the senator only by the body design. The senator is a sedan with four doors and notchback, while the Monza is a two-door with large rear flap, which is based on an understructure with a wheel base shortened around three centimeters. Both the outstanding, comfortable chassis, which served even as model for Mercedes, was common.

Only starting from model year 1984 the offered equipment variant "“GSE"” of the OPEL Monza differed clearly from the equipment variants of the OPEL senator. The Monza GSE was available only with that 3.0 litres six cylinder fuel injection engine with 180 HP and had sporty interior equipment with Recaro seats. In addition a sportily co-ordinated chassis came. In the "“GSE"” with OPELs alternatively digital indicating instruments ("“mouse cinema"”) were offered for the first time. These were used in the same form in series later in the cadet GSI. The otherwise usual chrome borders were blocked with the "“GSE"” in black and anthracite coal.

In a small series of 144 copies the OPEL Monza was converted by the company Keinath to the Cabrio. 22 copies served sports club as basis for bitterly the Cabrio.
