The OPEL record A was presented in March 1963. With it OPEL the introduction of the marking of subsequent models of all manufactured motor vehicle types took place via letters in the order of the alphabet also in the house (A, B, C," ). It had a smooth, sober body in the style of the Chevrolet II and beerbt after three years construction period the predecessor OPEL record P2. It is available as sedan, as combination version "caravan" and as as well as box cars. Also there was a Cabrio version on basis of the converted from the companies to German and Autenrieth. It was available with 1,5-Liter or 1,7-Liter Vierzylinder-Maschine with 55 to 67 HP, which to the OPEL olympia engine of 1937 decreases/goes back. This Vorkriegskonstruktion receives its last and highest performance level in the record A. It had the call "absolute Unkaputtbarkeit", was however technically long no more on the conditions of the time. The record L-6 with 6-Zylindern (2.6 litres, 100 HP; Engine from the captain) is considered as a forerunner of the OPEL Commodore. This model was available until 1965 and from the OPEL record B was then replaced.
