The OPEL record D was presented to 1972 as a successor of the OPEL record C. The designation read at the beginning of "record II", in order as Diesel model to be measure-interpreted. It was available, recognizable a Diesel version with 2,1 litres capacity from the characteristic embossment on the hood. The embossment in the hood was necessary, since the diesel engine had a larger overall height than the petrol engines by a obenliegende Nockwelle. The construction period ran in the year 1977 and from the OPEL record E1 was then replaced.
