These vehicles rank today among the compact class. By the cadet two model rows before that became 2. World war, as well as five series thereafter built. The Astra is produced at present in the third series.

Production locations

For the models starting from 1962 in Bochum its own work was established, in which excluding the cadet as well as the later successor Astra were produced. The postwar models cadet chronologically by letters by A-E were marked. The production rows of the Astra were designated sequentially beginning with letters starting from F.

The current Astra becomes in the meantime in Antwerp (work 2) as well as in Ellesmere haven built. The combination variant caravan is produced today still in Bochum, just like the OPELs Zafira.

Sales figures

As an eternal rival the VOLKSWAGEN gulf is considered. This rivalry began with the duel between VOLKSWAGEN beetle and OPEL cadet. In the permission statistics both the cadet, and the Astra those were later eternally second behind the VOLKSWAGEN beetle and the VOLKSWAGEN gulf. The OPEL models get however up, which is attributed to the Design of the Astra among other things. According to data of the force travel federal office 2005 122,841 units in Germany became again certified from January to Decembers.
