Otto Heinrich being castle (* 8 October 1883 in Freiburg (mash gau), " 1 August 1970 in Berlin), son of Emil being castle, was a German biochemist, physician and a physiologist. For "the discovery of the nature and the function of the breathing enzyme "being castle 1931 received the Nobelpreis for medicine.
He was a professor at the Friedrich William university Berlin and founder and director of the institute for emperor William for cell physiology in Berlin Dahlem. Its it made scientific contributions among other things over the breathing chain, the metabolism of tumors and the photosynthesis of the plants.
Being castle is in the cancer research today still v. A. by the so-called being castle hypothesis well-known. It had stated that Tumore by an unusual concentration of Laktat, the product of the fermentation of glucose to be characterised, although sufficient oxygen for the normal burn was present with the help of the Mitochondrien. From this it had derived 1930 the hypothesis that a disturbance or an interruption of the function of the Mitochondrien was in cancer cells the principal reason for the growth of cancer.
The acceptance is a classical author of the medical basic research and was never convincingly disproved, in addition, never proved.
In the meantime (January 2006) a group of Jenaer and Potsdamer scientists led the proof that the speed of tumor growth is dependent on the metabolic processes and that these can successfully be affected.
