The oxygen cylinder is a cylindrical stealing or aluminum container, which was filled with oxygen. The oxygen is usually filled with a pressure by 200 bar into such a bottle. It is available in different sizes, in the emergency service the most common is the 2-Liter and 10-litre bottles.

The quantity of the gas in the bottle can be determined over the relationship V_ \ mathrm {to gas} =p*V_ \ mathrm {bottle}. This formula is for all gases in the supercritical condition valid, not however for gases in the subcritical condition, like for example carbon dioxide. The unit of the two volumes is litre, those of the pressure bar. So for example a 2-Liter-Flasche oxygen with a pressure has contents, which correspond to 400 litres oxygen with a pressure of 1 bar of 200 bar.

Such an oxygen cylinder can be either transportable (this is usually the 2 litre containers) or to be firmly installed and for example over wall junctions be used.

Oxygen cylinders for medical purposes are completely white painted, with technical oxygen are characterized according to standard only the bottle shoulder white.

Oxygen from bottles is used in the medicine for the easement of breathing with patients with Respirationsproblemen or after a rescue mission for the stabilization of the lung and cycle functions. With mountain pastes in extreme heights oxygen cylinders serve the expedition participants as a breathing assistance by enrichment of diluted elevator air with oxygen. For breathing under water compressed oxygen is not because of its toxicity suitably, here uses one either compressed air or helium oxygen mixtures.
