Occupation of welfare designates an occupation, which sits down apart with the treatment of diseases and handicaps in the broadest sense.

In the closer sense the academic occupations of welfare (physician, dentist, Psychotherapeut, veterinary surgeon and pharmacist) are meant, in occupation chambers are organized whose member. The term was extended first to occupations within the range of the ill and old person care, the birth assistance and the Psychotherapie. Lists by "“special occupations of welfare"” cover more than 50 different job titles.

The occupation of the welfare practical man covers a medical activity with certain, legally specified restrictions. For this no training is necessary, it must however an official medical examination after the welfare practical man law (HPG) be put down.

The occupations of care (old person care, health and nursing for the sick etc.), Ergotherapie, midwife, Physiotherapie are called welfare auxiliary occupations. The job titles are protected. Examinations are nationally supervised.
