OPEL is the second largest German vehicle manufacturer and has beside Ruesselsheim locations in Kaiserslautern, iron oh and Bochum. The company has still about 35,000 in the next years in Germany thousands for rationalization reasons will be omitted.

Since 18 June 2004 Hans Demant of chairmen of the board is and in personnel union director/conductor of the international technical development center (ITEZ) the Adam OPEL GmbH.

Mark

OPEL is in Continental Europe and in the Near East the chief brand of general of engine. Up to small deviations in the offer of the Karosserievarianten the model pallet does not differ. In addition OPEL is offered in Russia, India, to China, Taiwan, Singapore as well as in South Africa. Here however more favorable vehicles of usually older series are sold.

Outside of the OPEL marketing areas mentioned residents sister enterprises often take over the sales and the production of the otherwise identically constructed vehicles. In Great Britain that is the Lutoner car manufacturer Vauxhall, which stopped the production of own models for the 1990er years, in Australia Holden, and in Latin America Chevrolet.

Brand name

The Logo of the enterprise is a circle with lightning. On the vehicles takes place the representation always flat, either on the hood or in the radiator grille existed vehicle-originally in place of lightning a representative Zeppelin, this one changed again and again and one simplified.

Coworker and locations

The Adam OPEL GmbH employs today in Germany (2005) 30,037 coworkers, who work on five locations.

In addition OPEL has a Testzentrum in Rodgau Dudenhofen.

Current problems

Because of tuning difficulties between the European center of GM in Zurich and the OPEL center at Ruesselsheim it came again and again to problems during model development, production and quality assurance.

The year 2004 ended with new discussions around the locations Ruesselsheim, Kaiserslautern and in particular Bochum. In Bochum, where from originally up to 23.000 jobs by rationalization still 9,600 jobs remained, further 4,000 jobs are to be diminished according to opinion of the GM management in Detroit. From protest against it the workers in Bochum laid down their work. Already in some years the models Saab 9,3 and OPEL Vectra are to be produced together at Ruesselsheim. The Saab factory in is to be used then to the building by cars of the mark Cadillac, the GM 2005 to Europe brought.

Since OPELs shares are not noted at the stock exchange, in December 2004 the transformation was decided of the Adam OPEL AG into a GmbH. This step was introduced to the bureaucracy dismantling and for reduction of costs. On 7 December 2005 the Adam OPEL GmbH was registered in the trade register.
