Paul Christian Lauterbur (* 6. May 1929 in Sydney, Ohio) is an US-American chemist and radiologist.

Life

It studied chemistry in Cleveland and attained a doctorate at the University OF Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. 1969 to 1985 he was a professor for chemistry and radiology to the New York University (Stony Brook). From 1985 to 1990 it was active as a professor at the college OF Medicine of the University OF Illinois in Chicago. Since 1985 it leads in addition as a director the Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Laboratory. Lauterbur was distinguished among other things with the Roentgen medal (1987), the Kyoto price (1994) and the technology price of the Eduard Rhine donation (2003) and belonged since 1992 of the German academy of the natural scientists Leopoldina on.

it received the Nobelpreis for medicine for its work to 2003 to the Magnetresonanztomografie.
