The people marshal was a planned rank of the weapon SS. In propaganda Erwin Rommel was designated as a "“people marshal"” of Joseph Goebbels.

To introduce planned on instruction of Adolf Hitler in the year 1944 this rank for the weapon SS. The weapon SS was not part of the armed forces and thus could their soldiers also not the general field marshal be appointed. Therefore the general field marshal same a rank should be created. It was to be promoted planned Josef Dietrich with success of the Ardennenoffensive to people marshal, which did not happen however from given cause.

Even drafts for a marshal staff were manufactured, which disappeared after the war in archives of the USSR.
