Pernod is the label name of a Pastis from France.

Similarly as with other market-dominating products (see speed for handkerchief) the tendency points itself also here to the displacement of an older generic name by a recent name.

Pernod is not peppered proper Pastis, but a wine distillate, with anise, Fenchel and other one.

Today Pernod with Ricard is united to a company: Pernod Ricard.
