Peter Safar (* 12 April 1924 in Vienna, Austria, "† 3 August 2003 in Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, the USA) was US-American of Austrian Herkunft.Er has substantial elements of the Mund-zu-Mund-Beatmung, whose application investigates and establishes in the Reanimation as well as the modern rescue medicine. It is therefore also called occasionally "“father of the cardiopulmonalen Reanimation"”. Peter Safar was nominated three times for the Nobelpreis in medicine.

Life

Peter Safar terminated the study of the medicine 1948 at the University of Vienna. it pulled 1950 with his Mrs. Eva Kyzivat after Yale, the USA, where it went through the training as the In the 50's it began to research at topics of the cardiopulmonalen Reanimation and the artificial respiration. 1958 it created the first intensive care unit of the USA.An of the University OF Pittsburgh became it 1961 professor and executive committee of the anaesthesia department, where it developed the largest academic anaesthesia mechanism in the USA.

After the death of his daughter Elizabeth at an asthma accumulation at the age of 11 years (1966) it created 1967 first Paramedic was based emergency service, the Freedom House Enterprise Ambulance service.

1976 it was involved in the establishment of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine. It withdrew 1979 from its function as an executive committee of the anaesthesia department and created that internationally Resuscitation Research center (renamed in Safar center for Resuscitation Research later),1989 went it into retirement.

Peter Safar was member of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Physicians for the Prevention OF Nuclear was international and the World Federalist Association.
